Review of Southern Water

Southern Water supply 551 million litres of drinking water every day from their water treatment works along 13,700 kilometres of water mains to the end customers. The majority of the water supplied by Southern Water comes from underground aquifer sources, with the remainder from rivers and storage reservoirs. At the same time they treat and recycle 800 million litres of wastewater per day using 370 treatment works.

Today Southern Water is owned by a consortium made up of pension and infrastructure funds called Greensands Investments Limited and the area they look after covers around 4,450 sq km, including parts of East Kent, through parts of Sussex, to Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Having the backing of huge pension and infrastructure funds has allowed Southern Water to invest heavily in both their infrastructure and their customer service. The automated system that Southern Water uses outside of hours is second to none, allowing customers to pay bills, change address, set up direct debits and in fact take care of most customer service issues 24 hours a day. However, if you need to speak to an advisor, lines are open till 8pm most days.
